A Future and a Hope

Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

When I posted my blog entitled “God’s Got This” on X last week, I got a message that said, “You’re in control.”

I had to laugh.

I knew it wasn’t in response to the content of my blog post. It was about upgrading my plan. However, I had to admit it was odd that it came within moments of me tapping the “POST” button.

Maybe it was X’s way of getting me to repeat what I had written.

God being in control of our world is a Biblical truth. I had used the verse in Philippians 4:6 to illustrate it.

However, this week I am sharing the verse from Jeremiah, above.

It says God’s plans are made to give us a future and a hope.

And that’s good news!!!!

How Old Is God?

Psalm 90:2- “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”

When I was a young woman, there was a well-known book and television show based on humorous things kids asked adults. One of them was, “How old is God?”

The question delighted Art Linkletter’s viewing audience—and it intrigued me, too.

There are multiple Bible verses referring to God as everlasting… from eternity past and to eternity future.

He has always existed (the only entity to never be “born”) and will never cease to exist (die).

In this world of “beginnings” and “endings”, let’s take time this week to contemplate Him… praise Him… for He is the everlasting God.

Has This Happened to You?

Isaiah 66: 12a, and 13a– “For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will extend peace to her like a river… and as a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you’…”

Have you had the experience of reading Bible verses which seemed to be direct messages of encouragement for you at a specific time in your life?

That’s what happened to me this week.

I had been reading a chapter a day in the book of Isaiah for the past 65 days. Sitting down to read the final chapter on day 66, I read the verses I am sharing with you today.

But before I opened my Bible, we got a phone message.

Our great-granddaughters (twins) were born on Christmas at 24 weeks. They were 1 lb each. We prayed, immediately. However, it wasn’t until a few hours later that I read the message of peace and hope in Isaiah.

I texted my granddaughter with the words of encouragement.

If you are going through something today that seems to be overwhelming, remember that God is good. He is with you. He will make a way.

A Match Made in Heaven

Matthew 4:19– “And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Someone asked how I keep thinking of Bible verses to use in my blog. Well, I said, “It’s easy. There are 31,101 of them!”

Another reader asked which I select first, the verse or the story/example? It happens both ways. For instance, yesterday, I was looking through some old photos. I came across one of my grandfather and myself holding up a nice-sized trout. How that man loved to fish!

My grandfather taught Sunday school. He was a living example of being a fisher of men. He preferred the boys in his Junior High class. “Catch them while they’re young and they’ll have a lifetime to live for Jesus,” he’d often say.

He loved to tell stories. Boys loved hearing them. You could say it was a match made in Heaven.
