Seeing life's events in the light of God's Word.

Will There Be A Tomorrow?

The current image has no alternative text. The file name is: mockup2.jpg

Matthew 25:46~ ““Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

“See you tomorrow,” we said to our friends.

We just assume that there will be a tomorrow, don’t we?

We think about the future. We plan our vacations.

But do we ready ourselves for eternity?

Do we even give eternity much thought?

Do we believe there is a great void at the end of life or is there an existence beyond here on earth?

Can we know?

Can we be sure?

I wrote The Choice: Will’s Last Testament to answer these questions.

Based on the truth in scripture, you’ll find my fictional story of Will is much like that of the average person. The choices he is faced with are the same ones each of us must consider at some point.

Our souls are eternal. Like Will, we must decide to accept or reject God and His plan for “tomorrow.”

The New ABC’s?

Proverbs 1:4,5- “For giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young, let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.”

In elementary school, ABC referred to the alphabet.

Later on, kids used it to describe gum (Already Been Chewed).

But not too long ago, I heard a commentator talking about a new meaning for ABC: Anything But Christ.

She explained about the mentality of young people today. They will listen to others their age or those who speak out on social media or even some authors of contemporary literature. But the one thing they do NOT want to hear is anything about Christ.

The speaker says she’s done her research on this topic, but I find it hard to believe that young people wouldn’t want to hear about the unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus.

They think, she said, that He is just a bunch of rules, that he isn’t “fun” and wants to dictate their behavior, rather than let them choose to be what they want to be and how they want to live.

They don’t realize they have always had the freedom of choice or have been told otherwise. However, they must understand there are consequences of each one.

I pray that young people today will come to know the Jesus of the Bible who never changes. Who can always be relied on to be there for them, if they will only call on Him.

Let’s turn the ABC (Anything But Jesus)  into the ABC (Always Believe Christ) as the one to turn to for TRUTH in these uncertain times.

The Valley of Decision

Joel 3:14,15– “Thousands upon thousands are waiting in the valley of decision. There the day of the Lord will arrive. The sun and moon will grow dark and the stars will no longer shine.”

As I read from the book of Joel this week, the words I bolded in verse 14 stood out to me. I immediately felt a burden for those who are at a place in their lives where they must decide whether or not to follow Jesus—those who stand at a crossroads and know that the decision they have put off for so long must finally be faced.

The decision about what to do with Jesus is the most important one in a person’s life.

Who to marry, what car to buy, what job to take, how to discipline children effectively, which health strategy to follow—all are important, to be sure. But once a person realizes their eternal destiny is at stake, all other decisions pale in comparison.

Remember the old adage: Ignorance is Bliss? I would rewrite it to say: Ignorance is False Bliss.

A large percentage of people worldwide live each day for themselves, ignoring the spiritual side of life. Without regard for the eternal, they cling to a false sense of well-being.

But, whether they choose to say to themselves, “There is no God,” or believe God exists, but is  distant and unconcerned with the everyday lives of human beings, or hold to any number of beliefs in-between, the truth according to scripture is that each of us need to make a choice.

God made His choice when he sent Jesus to the cross to pay for our sins. He chose to give us His gift of eternal life.

Then, he put the ball in our court. We must either accept his gift by placing our future in the hands of Jesus, or reject it.

For me, that was an easy choice because I knew I wasn’t capable of saving myself.

What about you?

Are you in the valley of decision today?
